Join Amanda Eriksen of Rising Crow Yoga to discover the Meaning of Your Practice. This workshop aims at bringing the creative spirit to your asana practice. The goal is to solidify the intention of movement in your practice. We will do this by asking first and foremost what does this posture mean and why do I do it? We will look for answers in the physical body and the energetic body, as well the spiritual and historical context of the posture. In this class we will chant Kirtan songs, hear stories of the traditional yogi gods and goddesses while moving our bodies in an Asana practice.

With a creative spirit our intention is to consolidate all this information with one’s own personal needs, creating a practice that is unique to you – leading us to the “Big” question – Who am I? What does my practice mean to me?

In this workshop you will learn:
  • How chanting/singing/affirmations can be a breathing technique as well as a tool to invoke intention into your practice
  • To create an Asana practice that is yours and a wonderful work of art!
  • The energetic intentions of Asana with the context of basic anatomy
  • A spiritual and historical view of select poses

Some yoga experience would be helpful but is not a requirement. You may want to take notes, but also be ready to move, the studio is well equipped but bring what you like to have for a typical yoga class.

Why offer this workshop, from Amanda’s words:

“As a  mom of two (Alex 5 and Thea 2) an environmental engineering consultant, a yoga teacher with a big garden and lots of animals to care for- I have a lot of balls to juggle.  Lucky for me I have yoga to keep me balanced and grounded! Throughout my asana practice I have always been intrigued about how I seem to come to the same poses time and time again.    I began asking myself questions like “Why do I need this pose right now?”  and “Just who is this ‘Warrior’ really and why am I so drawn to him?”

Being the scientist that I am, I began gathering information.  Taking notes on what was going on in my life and what poses were really speaking to me during these times.  I also began reading about just where these poses came from, and what they symbolically meant within a more traditional sense.  I then began playing with the poses, adding chants and affirmations to increase my  intention behind the pose.  Diving into my intentions of my practice has taught me so much about myself.  What I came away with has changed the way I both do and teach yoga!”

Amanda has been in love with yoga for many years and fell in love with Tone Yoga Studio first as a student. Being in the space which is so full of good intention with such wonderful teachers inspired her to further her studies and become a Yoga Teacher herself, with a love for prenatal and postnatal Yoga. Amanda brings a sense of play to her yoga classes. Whether it is playing with baby or playing with your asanas, Amanda creates a safe place to explore, relax and have fun with yoga. Amanda is also founder of Rising Crow Yoga.
